The KPNC Sensory Forest has a series of experiences along an accessible trail that are designed to engage all 7 senses and immerse us in a multi-sensory journey.
There is no better place for sensory therapy than nature! Nature inherently engages all 7 external senses – yes… 7 senses. In addition to the five we are all familiar with (sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste) there are two other important senses: vestibular, which is balance and movement, and proprioception, which is body awareness.
Nature provides many sights, sounds, smells, and tastes that we are harnessing in the Sensory Forest, to allow visitors to focus and explore these senses. In addition, the Sensory Forest offers some of nature’s amazing and fascinating textures as well as obstacles and tools to challenge the vestibular, proprioceptive, and touch senses.
With plenty of interpretation and instruction, visitors of all ages will be able to use and enjoy the Sensory Forest. And we hope it will inspire everyone to engage all their senses in their everyday lives.
